Bangkok's most comfortable stretch: the northeast monsoon has swept the humidity and rain away, mornings are relatively mild for a tropical city, and the sky stays mostly clear. It's also the busiest and priciest time to visit, with hotel rates climbing toward their yearly high and the Grand Palace and river-temple circuit drawing the thickest crowds of the year. November's Loy Krathong festival lights up the Chao Phraya with floating lanterns and riverside events, so book a river-view hotel well ahead if that's the draw. January pairs the best weather of the year with the worst air quality, so those postcard-blue-sky days often come with a persistent haze sitting over the skyline.

This tier spans two very different stretches. February through April is still officially dry season, real rain stays rare, but haze from traffic, industry, and regional crop burning lingers through February and March, and by April the heat itself becomes the main challenge, it's the hottest month of the year. June, July, and October sit on the wetter side of the monsoon: rain arrives most days, but typically as a heavy, focused afternoon downpour rather than an all-day washout, and October in particular starts to loosen its grip as the heaviest weeks pass. Crowds and hotel prices ease noticeably across all of these months compared to the November-to-January peak.

The stickiest stretch of Bangkok's year. May opens the monsoon with intense heat still lingering alongside the season's first heavy rains, and August and September, the two wettest months, bring rain on most days along with the city's highest humidity. Flash flooding is a real possibility during the heaviest afternoon downpours, especially around low-lying streets near the river, though it typically drains within a couple of hours. The upside is the lowest hotel prices and thinnest crowds around the temple circuit all year.
